Alice, an inquisitive girl, is sitting beside her sister
on a riverbank. She feels bored and tired. Once or twice, she peeps at her
sister reading a book. The book has no pictures or conversations. Such a
book seems dull and monotonous to Alice. She thinks it’s better to try making a
daisy chain to pass the time. All at once, a surprising event happens. Alice
sees a white Rabbit with pink eyes running past her. He mutters to himself
about being late. What a surprise! The Rabbit wears a waistcoat and carries a
pocket watch. She has never seen an animal do such a thing before. Driven by
sheer curiosity, she follows the Rabbit. Soon after, the Rabbit disappears down
a rabbit-hole. In the next moment, Alice goes down after him. She does not even
think or know how to get out again.

like a tunnel for a while. Then it suddenly slopes down so fast. Alice does not
have time to stop herself. The rabbit-hole feels like a deep well.

tonight. She hopes someone remembers to give Dinah her milk at teatime. Alice
imagines Dinah might try to catch a bat. There are no mice in the air. She even
wonders if cats eat bats or vice versa. This question arises from thoughts of
her pét cat, Dinah. Suddenly, Alice lands safely on a heap of sticks and dry
leaves of the well.

passage. The White Rabbit is running there. She chases after it as fast as she
can. The Rabbit is out of sight. She enters in a long hall illuminated by lamps
hanging from the ceiling.

none that fits the door. Finally, Alice spots a low curtain concealing a tiny
door about fifteen inches high. The golden key fits this lock perfectly.

vibrant flowers and fountains. However, there is one problem. Alice is far too
big to fit through the small door. She is sad but determined. She desperately
wishes to shrink like a telescope so that she can enter through it.

was printed on it in large letters.

Alice sees the words ‘DRINK ME’, but she keeps herself
from drinking immediately. Her grown-up thinking makes her wonder if it might
be poison. She has read stories where children get hurt by not being careful.
She knows that poison can make her very sick.

Alice makes sure the drink is safe. Then she drinks it
from the bottle. The drink has a lovely taste a mix of cherry tart, custard,
pineapple, roast turkey, toffee, and buttered toast. Alice has a funny feeling.
She thinks she is getting smaller like a telescope.

check her thoughts and emotions in this strange world.

it up and sees a tiny cake. ‘EAT ME’ was written on it. She decides to eat the
cake. She believes it will help her get into the garden. She does not care if
she grows bigger or smaller.
